Peugeot 308 SW 2022: practicality, modularity and hybridization

The French brand has unveiled its new Peugeot, with its family body, SW -Station Wagon- and with many elements in common with the saloon, but with its own functional character and improved habitability.

The new Peugeot 308 SW has what was good about its predecessor: size, the same front end and the practicality that characterizes it, but adding the novelties that are going strong: more sporty, less CO2 emissions and a plug-in hybrid version. Know more about skoda ne shitje.

The family bodies from compact passenger cars are always very practical and functional vehicles that also cover the need for larger spaces, almost facing larger models.

Built on the EMP2 platform of the “Stellantis” group, it has been configured a little longer (+ 5 cm) and wider (+ 5 cm) than its predecessor and with a slightly more sporty and dynamic look thanks also to its somewhat reduced height ( -2 cm), growing in battle compared to the sedan versions (5.5 cm more) and with a trunk that is very similar to its previous versions, although somewhat less in the hybrid versions due to the space occupied by the batteries (548 liters expandable to 1,574 liters with the rear seats folded).

Its rear modularity is remarkable, with 40:20:40 folding seats thanks to controls located on the sides of the trunk, the central backrest serving as a hatch to be able to locate long objects of up to 1.85 m, also providing a somewhat greater rear overhang (+5 cm in total length and 21 cm more than the saloon versions).

With its new design, a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 2 grams/km has been achieved, with improved aerodynamics up to an aerodynamic coefficient Cx) that does not reach 0.28 .

Even so, it has the same front end as the 308 sedan presided over by the new Peugeot lion logo, with its more stylized optics for its diode daytime running lights in the shape of the lion’s “fangs” and descending to the bumper.

Specific wheels from 16” to 18” in diameter are also offered, in addition to up to 7 body colors (some new), highlighting its rear width underlined with a lower horizontal black molding that is accompanied by some optical groups.

Its stamp is completed with the roof bars designed specifically for the model, and it also has optional elements such as:

  • Front seats with massage function
  • Focal sound system with 10 speakers
  • Laminated front windows (with two layers of glass separated by one of resin)  more resistant and insulating
  • heated windshield

The plug-in hybrid versions have a door for the electric recharging plug on the left rear wing .

Well-technified and spacious interior

The interior and the dashboard are the same as those of the saloon, with the “i-Cockpit” format panel in addition to the 10” multimedia central screen oriented slightly towards the driver, with voice assistant and “TomTom” navigator.

The versions with EAT8 automatic gearbox have the selector on the center console, as well as the selector knob for the 5 driving modes available to the car ( Electric, Hybrid, Eco, Normal and Sport ), in addition to the details already present. in the sedan versions of the coaster type, storage compartments, elbow rests, USB sockets, etc.

For their part, the rear seats have improved their habitability compared to the sedan versions thanks to their higher ceiling height, while keeping the legroom intact.

The tailgate has an optional “hands-free” opening and the trunk has a 12V power outlet, two luggage nets, bag hooks and a very flat floor at two heights.

New hybrid engines

The powertrain offer is the same as in the 308 sedan, with the PureTech petrol engine at its power levels of 110 and 131 hp with a 6-speed manual gearbox (8-speed EAT8 automatic on the 131 hp engine). The diesel offer is the only 131 hp 1.5 BlueHDI engine with 6-speed annual gearbox or EAT8 automatic.

The great novelty in the new Peugeot 308 SW is its two Hybrid 225 and Hybrid 180 plug-in hybrid engines , which have access to the DGT’s “ZERO” identification and all its advantages. Both versions mount the EAT8 automatic gearbox by torque converter .

  • The 308 SW Hybrid 180 e-EAT8 combines the 155 hp 2 PureTech petrol engine with a 110 hp (81 kW) electric motor, providing a combined total power of 180 hp and with 60 km of electric range (WLTP) and emissions maximum CO2 of 25 g/km.
  • The Hybrid 225 e-EAT8 has the 1.2 PureTech engine boosted to 180 hp and the same electric motor, achieving a total combined power of 224 hp, with average CO2 emissions of 36 g/km and an electric range of 59 km.

The mounted lithium-ion battery is the same in both versions, with a capacity of 12.4 kW/h , the car provides a 3.7 kW single-phase series charger for a full charge in 7 hours in a classic domestic socket (if it were 16 A, 3.5 hours). Optionally, a higher capacity charger (7.4 kW) can be accessed, achieving with it a recharging time of 2 hours (in a 32 A Wallbox).
